  2. In Ireland when English Education was introduced the children,who were not talented were severely punished especially boys.

    Boys were severely slapped often a boy received 30 hard slaps in the day.
    Flogging until the teacher had to give up.
    Blackening and blueing of thighs and calves.
    Slapping across the backs of hands.
    Boxing of ears
    Hitting the child on head with a cane
    "Hising". The culprit had to get on the back of stronger boy, the teacher flogged away until tired
    Kicking - The boy in motion round the desks and the teacher in pursuit kicking him behind at every few steps. Lasted until teacher was winded
