If he had not waited to hear the song he would have reached the man in time. It was the devil who was singing the song and he sung it on purpose so as to delay the priest. Therefore the priest cursed the song Cailín Deas Crúite na mBó and that curse remains on it still. It is said that this story originated in Kerry.
