- When the new moon appears in the sky the old people say
Cíonn na h-iasc í an céad oidhche
Cíonn na h-ean í an dara oidhche
Cíonn gach aoinne í an tríomhadh oidhche
When the people see her they say God bless the moon.
The old people used these words frequently when they saw anything for the first time such as a young baby they would say God Bless her.
If a person was talking about diseases they would say May God keep it away from us.
If they were in trouble they would say God between us and all harm or May God protect us.
I heard my mother saying these.- Collector
