  1. This is a great big rock on the southern bank of Blackwater about a mile east of Killavullen. It is supposed that a Castle once stood on it. The following is the reason for its name. When the Hennessy family resided at Ballymacmoy Mansion they received information that Cromwell was to cross the river near Killavullen to attack there Mansion. They immediately placed a garrison of soldiers on this rock to prevent the enemy from crossing the ford. Hence its name The Garrison Rock
