  1. (continued from previous page)
The fleeting years our joys may filch--but Eire they cannot take away.
The love for thee that filled my youth the hope to see thy Freedom's Day,
The wish to do one true man's part in stressful hour, or gloom or shine.
In winning thee Sweet Rosaleen, the golden throne that once was thine.
And now, tho' cares may pinion me, and sleepless sorrow cloud my life,
Yet still I sing the love that lives for Ireland in this hour of strife,
And still I tread with fancy's feet, Duhallow's emerald hills again,
And sing unchecked by narrowing doubts, the Patriot's freedom-breathing strain.
O Countrymen! it's yours today to shape the fate of our old land,
Let each one act the patriot's part by grasping firmer brother's hand,
Tolerantly, steadfast, patiently, undoing the work of cruel laws.
Let north and south and east and west unite for Erins deathless cause.
