  1. Dr. O'Callaghan won great fame a couple of years ago, when he threw the hammer, which won for him the name of the world's Champion Weight-Thrower. He was born near Kanturk and is at present doctor of Clonmel.
    There were other strong men living in this district, but their fame was confined to their own townland, and not like Dr. O'Callaghan. One of them was Edward Mc Sweeney of Doonasleen, who jumped the river Araglen near Kiskeam. He could hold a 56 lb.weight up over his head with his arm straightened.
