    Now Irish men the world o'er
    I hope you will attend
    Till I relate the story
    And the truly tragic end
    Of patriotic John Twiss.
    The bravest of the brave
    Whose body sleeps within the prison walls.
    In an unhonoured grave
    The story is a sad one -
    That heroic man struck down
    By the blood money and perjury
    Of a harsh relentless Crown.
    On the 27th of April
    They arrested the brave man
    And brought him to Newmarket
    Where the trial straight began
    They lost no opportunity
