    One night in November there was a great ball

    One night in November there was a great ball,
    In the schoolrom in Meelin for want of a hall,
    The people assembled from far and from near,
    And some stayed at home for the flu they did fear.

    Some blamed the master for not giving the schools,
    As he would not consent to the wishes of fools,
    But to Mr Jerh Barry we must give great praise,
    For he did his best efforts to keep away the disease.

    No wonder the Broadfords have a story to tell,
    The Tullyleases, the Ashfords, the Freemounts as well,
    For they got tea drawn in cold water with bread and some jam,
