about a mile outside the town in a district called Ballybuidhe.
There is a special horse fair held in Dunmanway every August which is still known as Ballybuidhe. This is held on the day after the races as the horses that came in first, second, third and fourth are sold at great prices.
The person that sells an animal always give something for luck to the buyer. This is known as luck penny. When the buyer has come to an agreement he strikes one hand on the other. When an animal is bought the buyer puts a hot iron on its back and the stamps it with a red mark.
