  1. Previous to 50 years ago the peasants of this district in addition to observing the Lenten fast observed a self imposed fast on the afternoon of Saturday before Easter Sunday in order to be able to eat a great number of eggs on Easter morning. In addition to usual breakfast of the period all seemed to compete in the eating of the eggs - many ate up to 12, while some ate as much as 18. The number eaten by each person began to decline about 40 years ago. Children also had a feast during the day.
