  1. Milking of newly calved cow.
    Blessed candle lighted, holy water sprinkled and lighted candle then moved in form of cross under udder and head of cow. Hair singed by lighted candle on udder and both hips of cow and milking begins. When done, milk taken in buchet and moved in form of cross over kitchen fire. Part used an part distributed to poor neighbours who after rinsing jug returning it with a small quantity of coarse sale inside, which was allowed to remain some days untouched.

    Occasionally calf enclosed in sack - brat bóinne : Considered lucky and preserved in stall.
