    his wife had gone to Bandon. O'Briens sent the servant girl to that same farmer's house to borrow some milk. She got it. The O'Brien's put that milk in their own churn barrel and then they succeeded in making the butter. Of course the girl knew nothing of the rules of not giving away milk on May day.
    John O'Brien also told me that these same people "took the butter" from another neighbour who, when he could not make the churn, sent for the priest. The priest, a Fr. Kelleher who was in Kilbrittain, went to the house and after churning the cream for some time it turned into blood. Fr. Kelleher sent to the people who had he name of "taking the butter" for a jug of milk and put it into the churn of blood. It immediately became butter.
