  1. Signs of rain: When the clouds are moving and look very black and when there is a circle around the moon.
When the cat is lying by the fire and also when the curlews are crying at night.
When the blackbird whistles and when the seagulls come out from the seashore far inland.
When the cricket chirps on the hearth.
When the water springs go dry soon after rain it is a sign of more rain.
When the winds blows the smoke down the chimney and when the fire is blue.
When there are red sparks on the side of a kettle or pot it is a sign of rain.
"A rainbow at morning is the shepherd's warning.
A rainbow at night is the shepherd's delight."
The winds from the south and south-west bring most rain.
When there is dust on the roadway rain is sure to follow.
