  1. Long ago there lived a butcher in Clonakilty named Mahony. If you asked him any question he would answer you in a rhyme. Everyone used to call him "O Mahony the Bard". One day this man went to Cork, and he went into a shop to buy some messages, and everything he asked, it was in a rhyme he said it. The shopkeeper said he did not understand him, and he asked him what was his name, and O Mahony answered,
    "The 'ma' of the sheep,
    And the sweet of the bee
    Is the name of the Bard from Clonakilty."
