    water, it is said he will never be married.
    All through the games, baskets of apples and nuts are handed round, and everybody takes his share.
    About eleven o'clock, tea is made, and a grand table fixed up, in the centre of which, is put the "Hallow's Bake. When everybody is seated to the table, the woman of the house cuts the cake, and the pieces are passed around.
    It is a huge cake, and maybe if there is a great crowd there are two cakes.
    Everybody is very excited to know who gets the ring out of the cake.
    They all hope some one of the two sweethearts may get it, because it is believed whoever gets the ring will be married within a year. There are also a rag, a stick, a pea, and a bean in the cake. It is said whoever gets the rag, if it is a man, he will be an old bachelor, and if it is a woman, she will be an old maid; whoever gets the stick will beat his life's partner ; the pea is for poverty; and the bean is for wealth.
