  1. Hurling and Football Matches
    About forty years ago two great football matches were played in Gloun. Schull and Gloun played the first match and Dunmanus and Gloun played the second match.
    About fifteen men were in each side. The smartest and best men of the land were picked. They were parish games. Gloun won each match and won fame on the field. The score was, Gloun, 3 goals; Drunmanus, 1 goal. I never heard of the ball being kicked across country. Michael Kelleher of Gloun refereed the matches. A rubber bladder about the size of the
