  1. One of the most famous of Holy Wells in the County Roscommon, and the Holy Well of this district is Oran. Our Parish is named after it.
    The village and hill of Oran occupy a splendid position on the Roscommon- Castlerea road. About six miles from the town of Roscommon and eight from Castlerea is its exact location.
    In the fifth century when St Patrick was travelling through the province preaching and teaching the True Faith to the people he came to Oran. Standing on the summit of the hill he gazed on the surrounding countryside while in the far distance he could se the peak of Croagh Patrick- the mountain
