    If he puts a coal in his pipe and walks out without churning he has the butter with him and what should be on the churning will appear on his churning when he is at it next time.
    If the cowslips are taken from your pasture on May morning the butter is gone from you for the year.
    If the dirt which forms between the two parts of a cows hoof is removed when the cow is passing out the gap the butter is taken from you.
    Beggar men who travelled the roads long ago had the power of bringing back the butter or discovering it. They put an iron in the fire and and as it got red the butter stealer came in agony to the door feeling the pains of the burn.
