- (continued from previous page)stands was a place of some importance, as fairs and markets used to be held there, and moreover Assylinn was the ancient name of the parish of Boyle. It got its name from a man named O'Flynn, who was the first abbot of a monastery founded there by St. Colmcille, and from the "eas" or waterfall on the river Buaile near the place. There are the ruins of an old church, which was founded by St. Colmcille, in Assylinn f
graveyard. Some years ago the remains of a round tower were traced here. It is a very uneven graveyard and slopes towards the east.
Many trees of different kinds grow in Assylinn graveyard, but Cloverhill is bare only for the trees that grow on the bank surrounding it. Many tomb-stones are to be seen in Assylinn, but in Cloverhill there is just one solitary stone-cross erected over the victims of the Great Famine.
