  2. The Town of Boyle

    The old name for Boyle was Ath Dhá Larg which means the ford of the two forks or water courses. Opposite the Abbey there was a small island in the middle of the river which divided the water into two streamlets and made it fordable at that point. On this island St Patrick raised a church and Patrick's assistant Cethic lived there and performed
