  1. My home is situated in the Townland of Gurthahile. It is situated in the parish of Killabin. The Barony is called Slievemargy. There are twelve families in the Townland. The names of families most common are Quinns and Dowlings. The houses are both thatched and slated. Houses are not as numerous as in former days. It is said they are only one tenth as numerous as they were. Many ruins are there to be seen but some are not. People emigrated from these ruins to America when the failure came on the potatoes 'crop'.
    There are two people over seventy living in the Townland. They have no knowledge of Irish they
