    Stradbally, Leix, his mother felt very cold, and her son taking compassion on her, made the sign of the cross on a pile of timber and it immediately lit up warming her. On seeing this she said "Thank God I lived to see this day." Father Quigley replied, "I could do much more for you in heaven if I had died after baptism."
    On another occasion there was a man appointed to watch for him to pass so that a party of them could do him harm. Friar Quigley passed without this man seeing him and this man marvelled at the incident and repaired to the priest's house that night in order to make his confession and become converted. Friar Quigley told him that although he was a protestant that he knew that he had got private baptism in his infancy.
