  1. In the year 1846 there was a great famine in Ireland. It caused a lot of damage around this district.
    People died in thousands, some from hunger, some from bad food and others from a plague that set in. When the people died of the plague their houses were knocked down on them because if anyone touched the body they would take the plague also.
