  1. About 150 years ago there were no shops in this town but when the brewery started the people that were employed in it had to build shops to provide cloths and food for themselves. Long ago the people that were in this town had to travel to Templemore and Maryborough for their goods.
    At that time the people did their shopping on a Sunday and that custom is still kept up in the West.
