In former times the parish of Camross and Castletown were one parish, known by the name of Offerlane or Upperwoods but in the year 1839 the two present parishes were formed.
In the Penal times Mass was offered up in the Mass Pit at Mount Salem, and also at the mass Pit in Mr Costigans farm of Killeen, and also a holy water Font. The present chapel of Camross was built by Fr,Burke in 1811. The present chapel gate was put up two years after the chapel being built, and bears the following inscription, "R. Rickard Burke 1813." so, the present chapel of Camross is 122 years old.
