    they got their share.They would not give the meal to the people to cook for themselves. This was the pay the men got for the work. In fact the men were not from this place at all who did this work on the roads. People died in this district not from hunger but from the sickness that followed the famine.
    Other hills cut down in the famine time in this parish were;
    The hill leading from Rosenallis village to the Catholic Church;
    The hill at Mullarchys on the road leading from Rosenallis to Mountmellick;
    The hill at John Flanagan's at Nyra.
