  1. We have a common cooper-made churn at home. This churn is about twenty inches in diameter across the top while at the bottom the greatest diameter is about twenty one inches while the height from top to bottom is about twenty eight inches. There are two parts in this churn. The upper part is generally called a "crib", while the bottom part of the churn is usually called a "stand" and these two parts can be separated in the middle.
    The churn is always round and the staves are kept in position by iron hoops mostly put on by the cooper. The staves of the lower part of the churn project over the bottom
