Marriages for a number of years past have been more frequent about Shrove Tuesday than at any other time of the year and whether this is because it is so near the beginning of Lent or not and that persons put it off I cannot say for certain but this is certain enough that people regard the month of May as rather unlucky to get married in. There was an old saying I often heard of, marry in May you die of decay.
