When a bargain is made, they show their agreement by slapping hands, and they mark the animals with mud on the hip, and clip the hair with a scissors, some buyers cut in the initials of their names between the hip and the pin-bone with a large scissors. Halters are not always kept, for some people who buy animals, (bulls, horses, etc.) wish to get the halter for luck, and if you do give the old halter, you must buy a new one. Bonhanis, when bought, are marked sometimes with the cart-grease from the axle of the cart, and more times with cradle. The great fairs of the year are the Spring and Harvest ones, special fairs are held for sheep, horses and pigs. The fair of Croghan held once a year, was a great fair for young bulls long ago.
