a fortnight befoe they are planted. Lime is shaken on the cut potatoes before they are planted so as to protect them from the slugs and snails. The potatoes are planted with a spade in Lea-ground. They are put in rows three in each row and one foot apart. When the stalks come up, the ridges are cleaned of all weeds and the stalks are sprayed. They are sprayed three times during the year so as to protect them from blight. The names of the potatoes usually planted are. Champions, Irish Queen, Kerrpinks, Aran Banners, Iron Victor, an Up to Dates. They are dug out of the ground in October with the spade and in some places they are dug by means of a machine known as the potato-digger.
