    called piggins were used. These were earthenware vessels shaped like what we now call mugs. Wooden mugs were in common use up to 1875. Some of these contained a quart. Others contained a pint. These were cut out of a block of timber. In 1875 tin saucepans some of which measured a quart and others which measured a pint came into use.
