  1. One day two poets were winding their way towards a town. They had not travelled far when they made a bargain, which was, that the first who would recite a verse of poetry should call for a drink when they reached the town. From the moment this bargain was agreed to each was on his guard lest he should recite the verse.
    They had not gone far when they saw a sheep. On seeing the animal one of the poets said, "is breágh é do lomra, a chaora." Soon after this they met a woman on the road. When she had passed them the same poet said, "is geat í do phíobh, a bhean". They had not gone much further when they saw a flock of seagulls. On seeing them the same poet said:-
    "'San bhfairrge Chuidhthe a chamhnuigheann na faoilenn."
