  2. In former times bricks were made in Smithboro and the brick field is ther yet. Ashes and sand and lime were mixed together and put in a brick maker. There was a piece of wood put under it before it went in. Then the lid of the brick maker was pounded up and down until it was hard. Then it was taken out and cut unto three parts and made into bricks.
    James Mc Geough had a forge in Smithboro and made gates and ploughs. The first thing
