“There are many names for fields and such places as glens, heights and hollows.”
There are many names for fields and such places as glens, heights and hollows. For example, Pairc a Leasa, Ath-na-g-Corp. The Grove, Ard-an-Aonaig. Pairc-an-Aifrionn, An Snamh, Pairc-an-t-Sleibhe, Bun-a' bhailte and so on. These names were given so that one place could distinguished from another. Some of these names are hundreds of years old, and others are only given by the people living on the farms at present. Pairc-na-Dtornapai is not a very old name. Pairc-an-Aitinn is so called because furze grows there and many names also explain themselves ijn the same way. Pairc-a-leasa is the name of a field in Minish in the Parish of Killarney.
