Very few poets lived in this locality in the far distant past one fame (who resided) was Michael Shannon who resided in the townland of Finisklin in the District another worth noting was John O Dowd but his poverty has gone into oblivion. Michael Shannon composed Songs about the Lord Leage & the Irish Party. John O Dowd R,I.P. a former M P. for Sligo was after coming from jail & the poet wrote an Address of welcome in a Song & it was read at the opening of a great meeting in Ballymote in honour of him.
