- Many old stories have come down to us from our ancestors by word of mouth. It was a custom with all the Irish people to sit around the turf fires in the long winter nights and tell very interesting stories. Here is one of them which were told by them. Once upon a time there lived a King and a Queen and they had seven sons. One day the King said to the Queen that if the next child was a daughter he would put the seven sons to death.
But if it was a son he would not kill them at all.
One day the King went to the town and he bought seven coffins and when he came home he locked them in a room in the palace. Then one day while the king was out the Queen was very sorrow about her seven sons. Then the eldest son kept asking her why she was so sad.
The Queen told her son about it and they considered to go to the forest.(continues on next page)- Collector
