   I
   Tis far away I am to-day
   From my forefathers' home
   Yet still I long to see the land
   Where once they used to roam;
   To gaze upon those old green hills
   Where oft their blood was shed,
   And breathe a prayer within my heart
   For Erin's martyred dead.

   If I were where I'd ramble o'er
   Each verdant hillside blessed,
   Quite carelessy I'd jog along
   To Sligo in the West.
   From Curlieu hills to Sligo Bay,
   From Keash to Carrownacluane
   And gaze with pride on each hillside
   That's waiting freedoms call.

   III
   To old Strandhill I'd make my way
   To view its scenes so fair,
   To Highwood Gleann and Sooey
   And that dear old Ballisodare.
   Through every verdant glen I'd go,
   Down by each rippling rill,
   Through woodlands, brakes and meads around
   To the shores of sweet Lough Gill.
