  1. There is no tailor in this district nowadays, but there was one long ago. His name was Matthew Kelleher. He used to travel from house to house and make the clothes there as required The people bought the cloth temselves and the tailor made the clothes. He had no sewing machine, his only implements were, a tape, a laboard, a scissors, an iron, an needle and thread and a thimble which he carried in a little box. He sat on the table crossed his legs, and sewed and talked at the same time.
    He stayed a day or two in the house and in the night time the neighbouring men flocked in and usually spent an enjoyable night because the tailor had always a wealth of news and funny incidents to relate.
    In my grandmother's time the women made all the shirts and socks worn by the men of the house
