- The churn we have at home is about two feet high and four and a half wide. It is about nine years old. The sides are round at the top and bottom. It has three parts, the lid, the peak, and the body. Butter is made it it every week both in Summer and Winter. All the household help to do the churning.
Long ago the butter used to be taken off the churn, and some people got no butter on the milk, no matter how long they were churning. It is customary ever since that people should not give away anything when they are churning. People say that if you go into a house where a churning is being made that it is right to take a "dreas" of the churn, or if you dont you could take the butter off the churn.
