- The houses long ago were different to the houses now. Some of the houses were roofed with iron and others were thatched with straw. The people used have a bed in the kitchen in the side of the house and it was called a settle bed.
The fire was always at the gable wall and some of the chimneys were made of stone wattles and others were made of stone. There was only one pane of glass in the windows long ago.
The old floors were made of mud and half doors were in every house long ago but they are not to be seen at all now. The people long ago used have splinters at night and very seldom candles were used. The people of the locality used make the candles with tallow.- Collector
