  1. Strand Ellen was giantess who lived in Scotland. She heard about a giant who lived on the South side of the Ox Mountains. One day she decided to come over to marry him. She landed at Strand Hill, five miles from Sligo town. She stood on the strand and looked southwards towards the Ox Mountains. When she could not see the head of the giant over the Ox Mountains she decided he was not worth marrying and returned again to Scotland.
