- ForgesThere are four forges in the parish. The names of the smiths are Pat Gormley, Tommy Cosgrave, Tom Roddy and Michal Gilbronan.
They have been smiths for many years. Pat Gormleys and Gillronans forges are near crossroads. Gormleys and Cosgrave are slated and the other two are covered with zinc iron. The doors are of no special shape.
There are fires in all the forges and also a bellows. The implements the smith uses are an anvil, bellows, tongs, hammer and a sledge. The smiths have clipping machines for clipping horses. The smith shoes horses and donkeys. He makes gates, horrow-pins spades and he mends ploughs and lay-irons. Horses like to drink forge - water. Smiths are looked upon as strong men for a strong man to be a blacksmith. There are no stories connected with the local forges.- Bailitheoir
