  2. When Cornwallis was coming to Ballinamuck in 1798 he went down by Drumkirk and Lear, He met a pike man on the road going to battle. One of the soldiers went to kill the pike-man but Cornwallis would not allow him. He said we will pick out a soldier with him. They started to fight the soldier was on horse back.
