Whistlers were also made from straw. A hole was a cut in the straw and then it was finished.
To make a turnip model you must first get a turnip. Then scoop a nose, a pair of eyes and a mouth. The eyes are bored from the top of the turnip head. A hole was also made at the back of the face. Then a candle was put into this hole. When the candle was lit the turnip represented an eery scene. Sometimes a band of men used go around dressed up in white. The turnip was fixed to a staff and a white cloth was put around this staff.
