  2. Fair held annually in Shrule on Easter Monday. Now the fair is of only average size, but formerly it was the largest, and most important fair in this district. Long ago farmers and farmer's sons from the adjoining districts of both Mayo and Galway used hold a donkey race in Shrule on Easter Monday of each year. Large numbers of people attended the "races". In time donkeys would be sold and bought so that a "fair" finally took place of the "races". Later other live stock as well as donkeys were bought and sold there. Even at the present day, a large number of donkeys are offered for sale at Easter Monday fair in Shrule, and people come long distances from Mayo, and Galway Counties to make purchases, and to offer for sale as there is no other recognised fair for donkeys in this part of the Country.
