    wall in the corner it was called the "settle beds and some of them are to be had yet. The fire was on the hearth. They burned turf and wood. There was no chimney but there was a hole in the roof for a chimney, and a creel, or a box on the top of it.There were no window on the house, and all the light that came in through the house came on on the door. At night they burned rush candles, to show light. Every home made their own candles. They pulled the long thick green rushes and tied them in little bunches, and hung them over the fire to dry peeled them, and dipped them in unsalted butter, and dried them. Then they would be fit for use.
