  1. Denis Kelly had some good qualities, when O Donovan came to survey the country, he stayed at Aughrane Castle and said that Denis was very hospital and kind.
Denis was very fond of Irish History and Irish songs and was proud of being an Irish chieftain. He has an inscription in Irish on his head-stone, so that was one of his good qualities.
The ruins of Aughrane Castle are just one mile down in the demene from the school, it was built in the thirteenth century soon after the Normans came to Ireland.
