We have a field called Pairc an t-Seamróig or Shamrock Field because the four-leaf-shamrock grows in it. Another field belonging to Martin Kenny Moneen is called Thureen which means Little Tower as there was a tower built in it long ago and it is opposite the fort where a king lived as there are two ditches surrounding it, and a drive leading to it. Another field in the village is Gorc a' Muillean, or the Mill Field as the mill is built beside it.
In a field owned by Thomas O' Brien there is a deep hollow called Clais na gCeann which means Pit of The Heads. This name is given to it because the heads of the people who were killed in a castle which is built on the same land, and used to be thrown into it.
A tree in Carrenclerry, Williamstown is called the Wicked Tree because long ago when a man was passing under it, its branches drooped and killed him, and also men coming from England used to be robbed under that tree.(continues on next page)- Collector
