   our Saviour and this has come down for years. Long ago when they used to be baking they would make as much as would supply them for weeks. At that time when the people would be going to begin cutting the turf, for a whole week before it they would be baking. If a day came wet the girls would often get the lend of their neighbours quern along with their own then the men would grind all the corn and the girls would stay baking. Querns are very seldom used now, but up to two years a Mrs Burke a very extensive farmer, often I saw her using it. This woman lives about five miles from Portumna in a place called Nut Grove Tynagh.
