   round hole in the middle of them. They then put an iron axle through the hole, and joined the two stones together. They used to put the corn in between the two stones, and turn one stone by a handle. In this way, the corn was roughly ground, and next cooked. Almost every man was able to make a mill in this handy way. This mill would not look good to-day. (Maureen Mullen, Newcastle)

   Long ago in the short Winter days, the people used to eat only two meals a day. The meals eaten were breakfast and dinner. The breakfast would be eaten at eleven or twelve o'clock, and the dinner at three or four o'clock.
